Cucamelons
Cucamelons (Melothria scabra) are also known as Mexican sour gerkins and mouse melons.
Don’t let their adorable appearance fool you though, because they don’t taste like a watermelon. They taste more like a traditional cucumber with a hint of lemon or lime.
No need to peel, you can pop these babies right in your mouth, eat them as a stand-alone snack, with some dip (ranch dressing or hummus) or throw a handful on top of a salad.
These are a seasonal item. Your best bet will be to find them in the summer months at farmer’s markets. You won’t typically find these at the local grocery store.
