Austin, Texas

Located in the center of the state, Austin is the capitol city of Texas. It has that unique blend of southern charm, big city hustle, and scenic country vibes.

Facts about Austin:

  • During the spring and summer months, it’s home to ~1.5 million Mexican Free-Tail bats. You can even take bat tours!

  • Only city left in the world with moonlight towers (117 to be exact)

  • Known for great weather. Austin averages over 200 days of sun each year.

  • The Texas State Capitol building is the second largest capitol building

  • Where Whole Foods got started

  • Some people believe Jack the Ripper may have lived here

  • Considered the live music capitol of the world

  • Bustling food truck scene - there are over 2,000 to choose from

  • No professional sport team

Below is the itinerary of our trip. It doesn’t cover everything we did, but more-so highlights some of the specific things we wanted to make sure we hit up while in town.

DAY ONE

HOTEL

Aloft Austin Downtown

  • Valentina's Tacos

    • Mmm smoked brisket tacos!

    • Closed Monday & Tuesday

  • Check in to hotel

  • Sunset Dinner @ The Oasis no reservations - show up 1-1.5 hours before sunset - check time

  • Drink @ rooftop bar in hotel


DAY TWO

  • Bike & Brew Tour

    • 4-730pm

    • Meeting place: Hops and Grain Brewery, 507 Calles St #101, Austin, TX 78702

    • Sign waivers (in email prior to date)

    • Bring cash

  • Dinner @ Dee Dee's Food Truck

    • Om Gai stew is bomb

      • Name of this stew also made me think of that that scene in “Wayne’s World” when they order Chinese food…


DAY THREE

  • Pedernales State Park

    • $6/per person

    • Check is reservations required

    • Stop at Hamilton Pool along the way 2-5:30

      • Check if reservations required

        • Bring cash

  • Coffee break! @ Summer Moon Coffee

    • This is a local chain with locations all over Austin

    • They have a signature creamer called “moon milk” and its sweet delicious goodness

  • Dinner @ DipDipDip

  • Cocktails @ The Roosevelt Room

    • Classy “speakeasy-ish” joint specializing in old school cocktails

    • Recommend the Bramble


DAY FOUR

  • Breakfast @ Paperboy

  • Recommend the Migas: goat carnitas, onion, tomato, jalapeño, cotija, serrano hot sauce, grilled tortillas

  • The Fuckin’ Alamo 

    • ~ 1.5 hour drive each way

  • Walk Around San Antonio

  • The Shady Llama

    • Neat outdoor space with local brews and llamas

      • You can buy llama snacks to feed them!

  • Salt Lick BBQ (Driftwood location)

    • Great outdoor seating and local Texas wine

    • BBQ not as good as Terry Blacks IMO, but still great
