Sakuraco Box November 2021
Listen guys, this subscription box is fire.
One aspect that I really love about travel is immersing myself in different cultures, and that includes food. I’m one of those weirdos that gets excited about grocery shopping in different countries. Since Japan is on my list on future travels, this box called out to me.
When my November box came in the mail I was already full swing into spooky season/autumn , so learning more about autumn is Japan was of utmost importance.
Koyo
In Japan, mid-September is the beginning of a magical few months. The countryside bursts with the fiery red of Japanese Maples and joyful yellow of Ginkgo trees. Koyo (紅葉) is the word used to describe the honoring of all things autumnal. Celebration of the season includes numerous festivals, leaf hunting (momijigari) and indulging in seasonal flavors like chestnut, sweet potato, persimmon and pumpkin.
Tha Japanese language has a specific term for leaf hunting! My heart just exploded.
